Clothing
Think coordinating, not matching. Incorporate colors and patterns that fit well together. Stay away from logos and neon colors. Neutrals are always a great choice but don’t be afraid of color.
Keep in mind the location, season, and the mood or feeling you would like to set.
Stay true to your style, and don’t feel like you need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe or something fancy.
Although most sessions only allow for 1-2 outfits, I like to tell clients to have a handful of options they love and we can go through them together before or the day of the shoot.
If locations require lots of walking and messy terrain to get to, please have a spare outfit and shoes you don’t mind getting messy in.
Feel free to send me photos of wardrobe options before our session if you would like help or input.
Location
&
Weather
I’m not a Michigan native, so my location knowledge isn’t the most extensive, but I will happily go out and location scout for all shoots. If you have a certain type of location you have in mind, let me know and I will do my research and ask those more knowledgeable for beautiful places we can shoot.
If you already have a location picked out, keep in mind of what the lighting is like throughout the day.
Rain expected day of the shoot? No worries, I will be keeping track of the weather and if the weather forecast is looking bad, we’ll touch base about 24 hours before our session to see if we need to reschedule.
Don’t get discouraged if it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows out. Some of the best lighting is when it’s cloudy or overcast, and typically is my favorite lighting as well.
Families
I want to make this as fun as possible! I’m a mother of two, so I know kids aren’t always willing to work with you and do as you ask, but I will do everything in my power to help makes this experience as stress-free as we possibly can. I will make a fool of myself if I need to, but here’s what you can do to help before hand.
Get your kids excited for the session and let them know how much fun it will be, but don’t feel like you have to over prepare them or add too much pressure for "best behavior".
Try not stress, kids pickup on everything and usually react accordingly. Meltdowns and tantrums are nothing new to me, and I will never rush you or your family, if we need more time, someone needs a break, that’s no biggie, I don’t mind and have already put that into consideration for the time frame in a family session.
Snacks and water can make a world of difference. Kids get hangry, I know this from experience. If you don’t bring anything or forgot, chances are I may already have something for everyone.
